8/4/14 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Wednesday

Today I woke up pain free in my legs! Monday I was grocery shopping and lifting heavy stuff like bottled water into the cart. You're not supposed to lift anything heavy and I guess I see why...now. My husband was at work and I thought, "Just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean I can't carry the same amount of groceries on each arm up the steps that I always do." I mean it starts to get silly with all the limitations on pregnant women and my mind starts to become skeptical of most of them. Well, I guess that was my mistake. I grabbed the water to shove it high up on the fridge in our garage and then proceeded to carry about five grocery bags on each arm up the stairs. It was not until I was halfway down the stairs for another trip that I realized my mistake. The muscles in my legs completely locked and then I had to keep them straight as I took each step at a time. They hurt for the rest of the day and Tuesday as well. They started to hurt so bad that I couldn't sleep so I looked it up online. Yep, carrying heavy items while pregnant or straining to reach is bad news. It can trigger a nerve from the heavy belly or strain a muscle that takes ten times as long to recover because the baby is the one receiving all the nutrients. I'm a genius, I know. Sometimes I guess it's good to actually listen to the doctors.
