Good news!  My Mom has had 6 days free of the migraine syndrome!  She has pretty much not been out of the house except for doctor appointments since September 1st.  Can you even imagine this?  Her house has been like a dark tomb because she hasn't been able to let the light in.  She's lost over 20 pounds from not being able to eat because the migraines make her throw up.  I've been so worried about her.  She does have an appointment with the Cleveland Clinic February 2nd.  However, if she continues to do well maybe she will not need to go up there!  Her doctors discovered she had a severe, life-threatening Vitamin D deficiency and suspect this could have been the cause of a lot of her problems.  According to an article taken from Livestrong.com Vitamin D is connected to bone health, hormone regulation, and calcium.  Research is still being conducted but it looks like it compromises your immune system function (which was one of my Mom's problems) and mood regulation (another one of my Mom's symptoms!).  The best ways to obtain Vitamin D are 10 minutes a day of sunlight and eating tuna and or fish which are high in Vitamin D.  My Mom occasionally eats salmon and tuna but not nearly enough because my Dad doesn't like it and she cooks for the both of them, not usually separate meals.  As for sunlight, why isn't this ironic?!  My Mom has become CRAZY about cancer from too much sun.  There's a healthy way to handle avoiding too much sunlight and there's obsessive.  My Mom, as long as I've known her, douses her body in the highest sunscreen, sits in the shade when at all possible, and never I repeat never, lets the sun touch her skin.  It's looking like a small amount of Vitamin D natural sunlight is necessary for all based on the research I've been doing.  It also affects many that are vegetarians - which my Mom has been for many years now.  Very interesting.  A vitamin D deficiency can cause muscle pain, weakness, vulnerability to illness, mood disorders and depression, extreme fatigue, and high blood pressure.  My Mom was experiencing all of these things.  The only thing that is not explained is the ridiculous amount of migraines.  But, who knows, if it affects your hormone levels and you're prone to migraines then maybe this causes them as well?

So great to hear that she is having some relief!  I hope she stays pain free.  I'm sure you can teach your mom how to worship the sun in small increments.  Wink
